We are delighted to announce that AB Roe Delgado Buot has been chosen as winner of the 2025 Leaders in Safety (LiS) Award. AB Roe was selected by the Vroon Managing Board from a shortlist of three nominations submitted by our Deepsea and Offshore fleets.

The other two nominees were Captain Nick Bocenkovs from VOS Prospector and Wiper Clifton L. Cawi from Ganado Express. Capt. Nick Bocenkovs’ dedication to safe operations was instrumental in ensuring the successful completion of a campaign for one of our clients, with his crew professionally handling significant challenges during the project. Wiper Cawi swiftly responded to a potential hazard to divers in the water during his vessel’s bunkering operations.

Our winner AB Roe Buot is currently a valued crew member on board high-heat tanker Iver Brilliant. His consistent and proactive commitment to safety has set a standard across all the vessels he has served on during his time with Iver Ships. His vigilance and proactive actions in maintaining a safe working environment have been recognised on three different tankers.

In the most recent episode, on board Iver Brilliant, AB Roe noticed and immediately reported an obstructed emergency exit. Although essential for safety, it was a hazard that could easily be overlooked. His timely action prevented a potential emergency impediment and serves as a strong reminder of the importance of maintaining clear access to all safety passages. This event is just one example of Mr. Roe’s unwavering dedication to safety and the application of Vroon’s LiS programme.

During all his assignments, Mr. Roe has demonstrated not only his ability to identify potential hazards, but also his courage to act decisively for safety. He does not merely stop unsafe acts, he sets an example to his peers, making him a true safety leader.

For his commitment, situational awareness and conduct in promoting safety, AB Roe Buot is a very deserving recipient of our 2025 LiS Award.

Many congratulations to AB Roe Buot! We look forward to presenting him with his Leaders in Safety commemorative plate in the near future.

About Vroon’s “Leaders in Safety Programme”

Every accident is one too many. At Vroon we truly believe that if we work together, it is possible to create an incident-free working environment, where we all return home safe and healthy after duty, to the ones we care for most.

We strive to make our vessels and workplaces safe places to be. This, in an industry that is inherently dangerous and where we are surrounded by hazards on a day-to-day basis. After any incident, we investigate what happened and what we should do to prevent a future reoccurrence.

We believe that by learning collectively we can prevent all significant incidents. In order to continue our journey towards a safer working place, we must apply safe ways of working and actively target behaviour. Our work in this area is never finished, as we must constantly improve our safety performance. As our environment changes, we need to adapt and change our awareness. We motivate each and every person to contribute towards the growth of a culture where working safely is a constant; working unsafely is simply unacceptable!

At Vroon, we believe in this long-term cultural change process, and we expect all colleagues, management and employees alike, to fully support this process. Our LiS programme has been successfully running since 2013. Through active participation and improved safety awareness, we are seeing that incidents can be prevented. The QHSE statistics confirm that our LiS programme really does bring results, with a significant reduction in incidents over recent years.
