VOS Gorgeous supports exciting Scottish offshore-wind project

We are delighted to announce that our Aberdeen-managed VOS Gorgeous will start an exciting new offshore-wind project this week. Continuing our strong relationship with international subsea specialist Sulmara, the vessel has been chartered for site-characterisation work at a Scottish floating offshore windfarm.

The Stromar floating offshore windfarm is being developed approximately 50 km off Caithness in northern Scotland. When complete, it will be one of the world’s largest floating offshore windfarms, generating renewable electricity for homes in Scotland. With the project commencing this month, initial data-acquisition work is intended to support Stromar’s engineering designs, as well as its ongoing environmental assessment of the site. VOS Gorgeous will be tasked with undertaking geophysical inspections at the site, operating in water depths of up to 100 m. Stromar is a joint venture of Ørsted, BlueFloat Energy and Renantis.

Michael King, Head of Sales at Sulmara says, “Mobilising VOS Gorgeous to carry out high-specification site characterisation is a big part of Sulmara’s plans for 2024. Bringing another modern & fuel-efficient vessel online to meet market demand shows how committed we are to supporting our clients’ net-zero ambitions.”

Vroon CEO Martijn Schouten commented, “Many of the vessels we operate are a perfect match for the demanding requirements in the offshore-wind industry. I am proud of the team that has completed this very efficient mobilisation process and am delighted that VOS Gorgeous will be playing an important role in this sustainable development, together with our business partner Sulmara.”

VOS Aberdeen Managing Director Stuart Thom added, “It is an exciting time for Vroon Offshore Services, with VOS Gorgeous and our organisation making major contributions to offshore-energy windfarm-development projects.”

VOS Gorgeous has completed mobilisation in Aberdeen, in preparation for her new operations. The vessel is now in Peterhead for finalisation of calibration and planning. We wish the charterer, our vessel and her crew a safe and successful project.

Built in 2015, VOS Gorgeous is a multi-purpose DP2 offshore vessel. She is the third in a series of four 60-metre vessels, purpose-built for Vroon and featuring a revolutionary, wave-piercing bow shape, DP2 and 300m2 cargo deck. VOS Gorgeous is one of 34 offshore-support vessels managed from our Aberdeen office. All vessels operate to the highest safety and operational standards. They provide our offshore and subsea clients added value for any project.
