Vroon24 – Know your vessel - 2025 movie out now!

Shorthorn Express 2

Our 2025 Vroon24 safety celebration took place on Tuesday 4 November, with the theme for this year being Know your vessel. Our Breda Call Centre was manned by a team of enthusiastic calling officers and assistants. In total, we spoke to 56 vessels over more than 28 hours. The very first conversation was with Second Officer Parilla Junre Inong on board livestock carrier Gudali Express. Aberdeen-managed VOS Pioneer rounded off our safety marathon.

Our vessels are much more than objects of floating steel and machinery. They are living environments that operate 24/7 - a second home, shelter and workplace. As we shared with our colleagues, safety starts with knowing your vessel inside and out. When you fully understand your “home”, you are in a position to protect yourself and your team, maintain the vessel's condition and support our clients safely and efficiently. Well-informed crews and office staff can work together to identify risks, develop effective safety measures and respond to incidents, thereby safeguarding colleagues and assets. Each and every Vroon colleague forms a vital piece of this puzzle.

We encouraged our teams to return to the basics and invest time in (re)connecting with their vessel, its equipment, protocols and their duties. Safety starts with knowledge, and familiarity builds confidence. Let’s commit to sailing safely together!

We asked everyone to think about what the Vroon24 topic meant to them and how it forms part of their life. In response, we received many great video clips and photos, which have been combined in this Vroon24 movie. We hope you will enjoy watching it.

A big thank you to all Vroon employees, at sea and ashore, for their contributions to another successful Vroon24 safety day.

And remember, we want you all to return home safely!

Get involved and celebrate safety!

Vroon24 forms part of our behavioural-based Leaders in Safety (LiS) programme. Initiated in 2013, the programme is still going strong, providing onshore workshops and training for officers and mini-packs for discussion on board. With changing themes, LiS is intended to give further energy to our continuous commitment to improve safety, strengthen the safety culture within Vroon and ensure all our colleagues return home safely. LiS motivates the crew and office staff to make this safety culture a mindset, embedded in our culture.
